Haute Ateliers

May 11, 2011 Leave a comment

An interesting article from The Wall Street Journal about Karl Lagerfeld and Chanel’s haute ateliers.* I’m definitely not the Chanel type, but I admire the exquisite detail. Do y’all follow high‑end designers? If so, you might also like the movie Valentino The Last Emperor. In fact, I’m wondering if one of the Chanel ateliers is the same one that Valentino used for his white dress!

*Hopefully this article will be available indefinitely, but when I emailed it to myself for the link, it came with the dour warning, “This article will be available to non-subscribers of the Online Journal for up to seven days after it is e-mailed.”

As the name suggests, CraftFail is a blog devoted to failed craft projects. They’re pretty darn funny. Not all of them are sewing projects, but a recent one is: The Vivienne Westwood Miscalculation (scroll down for the last photo). CarmencitaB (the one who made the wee miscalculation) doesn’t go into detail about what happened, but she was brave to share her fail! She was also determined to recover from it, and you can see her eventual success on her blog (turned out quite nice, didn’t it?).

On a side note, I’d like to apologize to anyone who was the victim of my inability to stop editing. I don’t know exactly what you get when you sign up for an email subscription or RSS feed, but it wasn’t until later that I thought, “Oh no… I’ve been posting these blog entries then tweaking them 20 zillion times after they’re published. Does that mean subscribers are getting 20 zillion copies of each post??”

So I’m going to try to be good and publish just ONCE. And if nobody is subscribed and therefore nobody noticed, well, I’ll still try to be good. 🙂
